Meet the mmob: Jasper Chan

Graduated from school of biomedical sciences, our Malaysia Partnership Lead, Jasper shares his love for food and mindful vacations as well as his thoughts on how fintech can play a role in web3.0.

What do you find most unique about working at mmob?

I think mmob really embodies the growth mindset culture, where we see mistakes genuinely as opportunities to learn. I’ve been in other companies that say they have the Growth Mindset, but are actually really rigid in nature. mmob really practices it.

What are you working towards at the moment?

I’m working full time on getting more and more commercial partners into our ecosystem here in Malaysia!

What does your job role entail?

I work to grow the number of commercial partners, along with relevant third-party providers for an ever-growing symbiotic ecosystem – all using embedded finance! Another part of my job is optimising everything commercial such as pricing, mechanics, strategy, and business model.

What do you like to do in your spare time?

I generally have many things to do around the house, so it is easy to occupy my time with chores and errands, and I always throw on a podcast or audiobook when I can!

What do you think the future of fintech looks like?

In my opinion, I think fintechs will play the difficult and essential part of bridging the gap between tradfi (traditional finance) and the up and coming web3.0. There would be a transitory phase, and fintechs in the coming few years will likely pivot towards addressing that movement.

What is something you are planning on doing in 2023 that you have never done?

I’d like to take a vacation to the countryside, staying in either a small hut or caravan and just be with nature, ideally in a forest bathing environment.

What is a fun fact about you many people may not know?

My bachelor’s degree is actually in the field of Biomedical Sciences!

Being a foodie, what are the 3 most underrated food or cuisine you would recommend for others to try?

Definitely try the extremely wide range of Indian food, Thai food, and Korean traditional food available. Many of the lesser known traditional foods and snacks are true gems!

What is the best piece of advice you have received?

“The best revenge is not to be like your enemy.” – Marcus Aurelius
