Meet the mmob: Jake Figg
Jake is a new member of the mmob, joining us as a Product Manager in between his sporting and reading commitments.
How did you come to join the mmob?
I graduated from university about a year ago with a degree in Economics and Arabic and worked as an Analyst for a Fintech investment platform specialising in Islamic Finance. There, I had plenty of exposure to technology, which has led me to where I am today.
What is your favourite thing about working at mmob?
Ultimately, it’s the team that makes somewhere a pleasure to work — in spite of the remote nature of work right now, my new teammates have been incredibly welcoming. I’m hoping there will be an opportunity to go to the pub with them soon!
What does your job role entail?
In my role as Product Manager, I work to bridge the gap between the technical and commercial considerations of our product. This means working closely with our team and commercial partners to ensure that our product remains relevant, sophisticated and a delight to use!
What are you working towards at the moment?
At the moment we are working on the integration of some exciting features, which forms the basis of a busy few months ahead. I am also getting up to speed on all aspects of the business, as it is essential to have a good handle on what is going on across Commercial, Regulatory and Technical verticals when in a Product role.
What do you like to do in your spare time?
I particularly like reading, whether about financial markets and politics in the FT and New York times or fictional novels. I’m also into running and cycling, and my bike has been a lifeline to help me get out and about during lockdown!
What do you think the future of fintech looks like?
For me, the future of Fintech is two things; fast and seamless. We have seen a rapid increase in our ability to capture different data points and harness them to provide trustworthy, efficient and nimble services for consumers and businesses alike. This has been accelerated through the adoption of Open Finance principles, and I hope that we are moving towards a new era of democratised access to life-enhancing services on a global scale.
What is the best piece of advice you have received?
Start investing early! Compounding is a very powerful tool to increase the value of your nest egg and the sooner you start, the more you’ll have to enjoy when the time comes.
